Parenting Foster Kids with Challenging Behaviors
Often, foster kids have come into care specifically because they have experienced loss, abuse, or neglect. Those experiences and other kinds of trauma that may have occurred in their home, including being removed from their birth family, can and often do influence how a child behaves.
Foster parents receive specific training during the licensing process to understand why foster kids behave the way they do and how they can help them cope. Once foster parents welcome a child into their home, they may find the child’s behaviors particularly challenging.
