Helping Children Heal From Trauma

Most children impacted by adoption, foster care, or kinship care experienced some degree of trauma from abuse, neglect, loss, or chaos before joining your family. These experiences of trauma leave scars and impact a child’s developing brain. One of the most important (and most complicated) tasks for parents and caregivers is to help these kids find healing from the trauma they’ve experienced. Parents and caregivers who educate themselves on the impacts of trauma can learn new tools and parenting approaches to support their children. Providing a safe, predictable “soft landing” for these children facilitates trust, security, and attachment and opens a child’s heart to heal.
