Transitioning Home After Adoption
Regardless of the age of the child being adopted, bringing a newly adopted child home is an adjustment for the child, for the parents, and for others in the family, and adjusting is hard time-consuming work.
Every parent, and if the child is old enough, every child goes into adoption with expectations of their life post-adoption. Very often these expectations do not meet reality, and unmet expectations bring their own stress.
Preparation in advance for the realities of newly adopted life and support during the transition time is crucial for adoptive families.
Creating a Family has an active and supportive online adoption support group full of people who have survived the transition period and share their experiences and support in the community we’ve built together.
