Caregiving Without Becoming a Foster Parent
Once the child is in Department of Social Services (DSS) custody, DSS will look for relatives to care for the child while they work with the child’s parents to resolve the safety issues in the home. If you agree to care for the child, you will be given the option of becoming a licensed foster parent. You are not required to become a licensed foster parent to care for the child, but unless you become licensed, you will not receive the monthly foster parent financial assistance or other services to help care for the child.
